A Tribute to Mr. Gamble
At the age of 95, Mr. Gamble left this world to be with the Lord. This beautiful, cozy lap quilt was made for his wife of 67 years from his cardigan sweaters (most were wool), flannel shirts and corduroy pants. Buttons from the sweaters serve as the main ties at the corners of the blocks with additional (hidden) ties in the middle of each block.
While photos do not do justice to the rich colors and textures of this quilt, this closeup attempts to provide just a glimpse.
For a more pleasing finish and to provide extra stability, the flannel backing was quilted to the batting prior to tying the layers together. The labels contain the 23rd Psalms and the family crest.
A flannel shirt, cut diagonally across the plaid, was used for the binding.
Pockets from various garments were incorporated into the quilt top. Fabric photographs were created and slipped into two of the pockets.

Great Quilt. I especially love the fabric photos tucked in the pockets! Knowing you can make a memorial quilt using such clothings as sweaters, and a diversity of fabrics, really opens up a lot of options.
Could you make quilts for other occassions? I am thinking maybe weddings, anniversaries, landmark birthdays, retirement, moving from a long time residence, etc?
Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration. Grace

Crystal,
Since I am still in the UK, I haven’t actually seen the quilt in person but just to see the pictures and remember the shirts, sweaters and pants Dad used to wear makes me very happy. It is just awesome! Thank you so much!

Mark –
Thanks for the nice comment. I’m glad you were able to see the quilt pictures online and that you’re pleased. As stated above with the close-up, these pictures do not do it justice – I’m anxious for you to see it in person. Thanks again for entrusting me with the honor of creating this beautiful keepsake from your dad’s clothing.

My mother, Mark, and I were just admiring the quilt together. We laid it out on the table and it was remarkable to see the craftsmanship and time that has gone into making this beautiful piece of art. The Gamble family crest really is the finishing touch. Thank you so much for providing us with this beautiful memory of my Dad.
I will be sure to forward on your contact info to my friends for other special occasion quilts.
